Goals / Activities

The Lincoln Green Building Group meets quarterly at a time and place to be determined each quarter. A special presentation on a topic of interest and appropriate to the mission of the group is the focus of the public meeting.

 

The Lincoln Green Building Group carries out its goals and activities through Standing Committees, with oversight by the Executive Committee (the chairs of the Standing Committees).

 

STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE LINCOLN GREEN BUILDING GROUP/LGBG

Education Committee

- Create public awareness of the principles and practices of sustainable design and construction.

- Special events to share information and bring attention to all aspects of sustainable living.

- Plan and develop displays and exhibits, both permanent and portable, to promote The Lincoln Green Building Group and its mission, the resources available throughout the community, and special projects or programs as they occur.

- Collaborate and cooperate with organizations, agencies, institutions to create and develop public community educational programs and projects.

NOTE: The Lincoln Green Building Group cooperates with the UNL College of Architecture Library at Arch Hall, 10th & R Sts., Lincoln, Nebraska, to make books and other materials about sustainable design, construction, materials and living available to the general public. All citizens of the state of Nebraska may use and check out materials from this library.

Assistance Committee

- Maintain database of all sources of assistance available in the community, including but not limited to the services and types of assistance provided by members of the LGBG.

- Establish and promote speakers bureau consisting of members of the Lincoln Green Building Group and other community resource people; promote and schedule appearances throughout the community, including LGBG quarterly meetings.

- Offer assistance throughout the community by identifying, coordinating with and sharing resources and expertise to encourage sustainable living, green design and construction principles and practices, innovative approaches to projects and programs related to the mission of the LGBG.

- Maintain web site and email for LGBG through which members can share information, and the public can inquire and receive responses.

Advocacy Committee

- Make presentations at community meetings and public forums to promote concepts, practices, projects and policies of sustainable living throughout the community. 

- Drawn in partners to assist the Lincoln Green Building Group in conveying the concepts, practices, projects and policies of sustainable living as they relate to the work of the partners, as well as the development of community policy and practices. 

- Work to incorporate a green approach to community development and the policies, practices, processes and procedures of city/county, state and federal government, including the Lincoln/Lancaster County Comprehensive Plan.. 

- Communicate and share information with public officials, commissions, agencies and departments to create awareness about the concepts and practices of sustainable living, and to encourage the incorporation of these concepts and practices in policies, processes, procedures and projects. 

- Advise and assist members of LGBG preparing for presentations or projects advocating sustainable and green building.

Student Chapter

- Develop active participation by students of public and private schools, community colleges, universities in the community in The Lincoln Green Building Group. 

- Provide educational and training opportunities for young people of all ages, encouraging their interest and advising them about career opportunities. 

- Develop and carry out presentations, projects and programs directed toward the youth of the community. 

- Participate in the work of other Standing Committees of the Lincoln Green Building Group. Encourage the inclusion and development of courses related to sustainable living, green building design, construction and development.
